Competition Terms & Conditions

Website: www.wellingtonrecycles.co.nz
First Competition Period: 19 October 2026 – 24 October 2026

1. About the Competition

The Wellington Recycling Challenge ("Competition") invites participants to take part in a fun, hands-on recycling activity and submit a photograph showing their recycling effort for the opportunity to win one of the prizes offered by the Competition organiser.

The Competition aims to encourage people and whānau to learn about recycling, recycle correctly, reduce waste and help care for Papatūānuku and our environment.

There may be multiple prizes and winners. The prizes and number of winners will be announced by the organiser at or before the end of the Competition.

2. How to enter

To enter, participants must:

  • Take part in the Wellington Recycling Challenge.

  • Sort at least 3 items into each of the 8 categories.

  • Take a photograph clearly showing their sorting activity.

  • Scan the official Competition QR code or visit the official Competition entry page at www.wellingtonrecycles.co.nz/result-page.

  • Upload their photograph.

  • Provide their name and email address.

  • Read and agree to these Competition Terms & Conditions.

  • Read the Wellington Recycling Challenge Privacy & Photo Consent Policy.

  • Agree to the required photo consent.

  • If the participant is under 16, have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter.

  • Submit their entry before the Competition closes.

Learning is what matters! 🌿

Each category contains 7 items, and we encourage everyone to challenge themselves to sort all 7.

Mistakes are part of learning! Participants do not need to sort every item correctly to qualify for the prize draw.

Sorting more items or getting more answers correct does not increase the chance of winning.

Every valid entry has an equal chance of winning.

Participants under 16 must have a parent or legal guardian complete the relevant contact and consent requirements.

Only entries submitted through the official Competition entry form, or otherwise accepted by the organiser, will be considered.

3. Eligibility

The Competition is open to:

  • People aged 16 years or over; and

  • People under 16 years, provided they have permission from a parent or legal guardian to participate.

The organiser reserves the right to verify an entrant's eligibility where reasonably necessary.

Anyone directly involved in administering or selecting winners for the Competition may be excluded from entering.

4. Photograph requirements

The submitted photograph must clearly show at least 3 items placed in each of the 8 categories.

Items do not need to be sorted correctly for the entry to qualify for the prize draw. The Wellington Recycling Challenge encourages participation, exploration and learning.

Submitted photographs must:

  • Be the entrant's own photograph or be submitted with permission from the copyright owner.

  • Show the entrant's recycling effort or relate to the recycling activity promoted by the Competition.

  • Not contain unlawful, threatening, offensive or inappropriate material.

  • Not intentionally infringe another person's copyright, privacy or other rights.

If another person is clearly identifiable in the photograph, the entrant must have appropriate permission for that person to appear in the submitted and published photograph.

If an identifiable child appears in the photograph, permission from that child's parent or legal guardian must be obtained.

The organiser may reject an entry that does not comply with these requirements.

5. Number of entries

Each person may submit one entry during each Competition period.

For the first Competition, each person may submit one entry between 19 October 2026 and 24 October 2026.

If multiple entries are submitted by the same person during the same Competition period, additional entries may be disqualified.

6. Competition period

The first Competition opens on:

19 October 2026

and closes on:

24 October 2026

Entries received after the Competition has closed may not be accepted.

Future Wellington Recycling Challenge Competition periods and closing dates may be announced separately on www.wellingtonrecycles.co.nz.

7. Prizes

There will be several prizes.

The prizes and number of winners will be determined by the organiser and announced at or before the end of the Competition.

Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash unless the organiser agrees otherwise.

8. Winner selection

Winner(s) will be selected randomly using a random number generator.

A number will be assigned to each valid entry and the random number generator will be used to select the winner(s).

Every valid entry has an equal chance of being selected, regardless of how many items were sorted or whether mistakes were made.

The organiser's decision will be final, subject to applicable law.

9. Contacting winners

Potential winner(s) will be contacted using the email address supplied with their entry.

For entrants under 16, the parent or legal guardian will be contacted.

If a winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within 2 days, or if the entry does not meet the eligibility requirements, the organiser may randomly select an alternative winner.
