Do you know what the symbol on our plastics actually means?
It might look like a “recycling” symbol, but it is actually the plastic resin identification code!
Kate breaks it down for you in this video

Some things should never go in your recycling bin. Especially batteries🪫
They might seem small, harmless or “surely recyclable somewhere”, but in a recycling truck or sorting centre they can become seriously dangerous.
These items can spark fires, explode and often contain hazardous materials and need specialist handling. These items put real people, trucks and recycling facilities at risk.
So please don’t pop them in your kerbside recycling and hope for the best.
Check your local council options, transfer station, battery drop-off points or e-waste collection services instead.

Keep soft plastics out of your kerbside recycling!
Kate often gets asked why soft plastics can’t go through the recycling centre, and this is a perfect example of why. They can get tangled, contaminate other recycling, and create extra work for the people sorting it.
Soft plastics can be recycled, but not through your kerbside - check out recycling.kiwi.nz for your nearest drop off.

Bagged recycling might look tidy in your bin, but it causes problems at the recycling centre.
Workers can’t see what’s inside, and on a busy sorting line, bags aren’t able to be opened and checked.
Just clean, loose recycling, ready to be sorted.
